Pandiji loves Khan Saheb’s singing and offers him to come over to Vishrampur. Later, when Panditji visits the village of Mirzapur, he comes across Khan Saheb (Sachin Pilgaonkar), the singer of different Gharana. In the first year, Panditji wins the competition without any opponent. According to the rules, the winner of the competition will not only get the post of Rajgayak but will also get 8,000 Mohras, a villa to stay, a royal treatment in entire kingdom and a dagger with a power to kill one person. Then on the occasion of Dussehra, King of Vishrampur announces the musical competition for the post of Rajgayak. Set in a British India, Panditji with his melodious voice grace the entire kingdom of Vishrampur. The musical saga “Katyar Kaljat Ghusali” begins with the debut of Shankar Mahadevan as a Panditji. However, the movie differs a lot from the original play. “Katyar Kaljat Ghusali” the movie, is the adaptation of the popular Marathi Play (Natak) with the same title.
